RAM -- Random Access Memory, or RAM, is a short-term memory that is used to temporarily store information. It is volatile in nature, which means information is wiped off from RAM, when the system is switched off.
CPU -- Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the core computing part of a PC as it contains the logical circuitry through which the system functions. It reads and carries out commands sent from the system’s software and hardware. It has more than one microprocessor and is installed in the system’s motherboard.
Hard Disk -- A storage device that is non-volatile in nature and housed inside a drive unit. The disks are flat, circular plates made out of glass or aluminum and coated with a magnetic material. It offers the benefit of greater storage space, and reading and writing speeds than floppy disks.
Motherboard -- This vital hardware houses the system microprocessor. It is a flat, rectangular circuit board that consists of socket, chipset, Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) chip and real-time clock.
Monitor -- This is the computer’s visual display unit. It consists of the display unit, the display unit enclosure and circuitry. Modern monitors have LCD screen as against the traditional CRT display seen in older computers.
Floppy Disk Drive -- This is a drive unit that can be used to insert a floppy disk of 3.5" or the older 5.25" disks. The drive’s read and write unit, read data stored in the disk. Today, floppy disks are not used very much, as Flash Drives are preferred instead.
CD-ROM Drive -- This is a drive unit that is used to read and write data onto a CD. The read/write speed of the drive must be fast, when you need to install programs or play games from a CD
